All Time Low performs on an all time high

Concert Review

There are always artists who perform well live and others that don’t.  All Time Low has such an appealing stage presence that their performing is automatically great.  They come on stage with such euphoria. They make the whole audience dance and sing- and even crowd surf.

The Myth is a place I have not been to before and as a person who does not like to be in unfamiliar places I was freaking out.  I am not one for moshing or going crazy at concerts, which is what happens at the Myth. I was surprised, scared, and entertained when people started crowd surfing and doing all sorts of moshing rituals.

Opening acts- you either love them or you don’t pay attention to them.  I didn’t do a lot of research leading up to the concert, so I was completely awe struck when Tonight Alive started playing.  I have heard a few of their songs and loved them.  It was so cool to hear them live- they are a talented bunch.  After Tonight Alive a band called Issues came onstage.  I had no clue who they were or what kind of music they play, but  their Pokeman-inspired banner seemed like something that would appeal to a child’s eye – their music, however is the complete opposite.  Issues turned out to be a screamo band.  Although I respect them and their creativity and how they put themselves out there, I am not too keen for screamo music.  My mom and I exchanged glances as we casually plugged our ears (it was so loud), occasionally head-banging along just to lighten the mood.

All Time Low is the band that made me understand my love for concerts.  When they came onstage, the crowd erupted with adrenaline.  It was like we were all puppets, them the puppeteers- if they wanted the crowd to jump, the crowd jumped.  I am still baffled with how they can jump around so much on stage and sing stellar notes at the same time.  They sound just like they do on the album- which is hard to achieve, especially when dancing around so much.

Alex Gaskarth (guitar and lead vocals) and Jack Barakat (lead guitar) have great stage banter- from arguing about what song is next to who has had more bras thrown at them, there is never a dull moment. My dad has always said you can tell the rhythm section of a band is good if you can feel it in your heart.  Zack Merrick (bass) and Rian Dawson (drums) did not disappoint.  I could feel the bass and drums in my heart and they carried with me even after the concert.

I am a very empathetic person- I basically inhale other people’s feelings.  I’ve found that I enjoy concerts so much because people just put all of their troubles behind them.  It feels like everyone is genuinely happy. We all gather together to see these people do what they love- play their music.  You can tell that the boys of All Time Low really love putting themselves out there and sharing their passion. They take you away from reality for an hour and a half and you get “Lost in the Stereo.”
