Announcement about distance learning
Letter from SFHS Principal Doug Austin
The following is a letter from Principal Doug Austin regarding distance learning procedures.
St. Francis High School (SFHS) Students and Families,
Currently our teachers and support staff are preparing for distance learning by developing lessons for classes starting on Monday, March 30. This is a new process for both students and teachers. There will be a period of adjustment as we learn about how to deliver instruction in this new format. At this time, we do not know how long we will use distance learning. We will continue to monitor information from Governor Walz and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). As we receive updates we will share this information with you as quickly as possible. See important information updates below:
Device Pick-up (as needed): Last week we asked families to fill out a Home Device Survey. Using that information, our technology department created a list of students that need devices from the school for distance learning. Pick-up times are listed at the end of this message and are based on last name.
Band Instruments: We will distribute band instruments at the same time as we distribute devices. See detailed information at the bottom of this message for device/band instrument pick-ups.
Locker Contents: At this time students will not have access to their lockers since students do not need anything from their lockers for distance learning. This might change in the future.
Schedule Changes (message from the counseling department): Due to the extended school closure we will be accepting schedule correction requests through this google form T3 SFHS Schedule Review Request Form Monday, March 23 – Wednesday, March 25. We are limiting the dates for requests in order to assist teachers in this transition to distance learning and we will NOT be doing the usual corrections during the first two days of the trimester.
SFHS Instruction Schedule: We have no school the week of March 23-27. Please note that teachers will potentially reach out to students to get them setup for classes. This might include assisting students to connect to Google Classroom and/or another platform that might be used for the instruction starting on Monday, March 30. We will provide more details on the implementation of distance learning later next week.
Directions for Device/Band Pick-up
Arrive at your scheduled time (see below). Drive up outside of the main entrance of SFHS where buses drop off students in the morning. Cars should start forming a line starting next to the flagpole.
Please follow these curbside instructions:
- Stay in your vehicle please.
- Have your student’s name on a piece of paper AND your state issued ID visible through your car window. Do not roll down your window please.
- Staff will deliver your device/band instrument by setting it on the curb outside your vehicle. Do not open your door to get a device until the staff member is six feet away.
- In your bag, you will find the Technology Consent Form. If you take the device you are agreeing to the content of the form.
