As Blake Ryan turns the corner in his 2002 Ford Ranger, a sound like a rubber screaming chicken toy erupts from his tires.
The Ranger has a few other traits that make Ryan’s truck a feature on Beater of the Week, a feature segment on SFHS Today that highlights vehicles in less-than-ideal condition.
“I think that this qualifies for Beater of the Week because I can’t turn without ripping my fenders off, so it kind of makes a lot of noise,” said Ryan.
All 31 different wheels Ryan tried to put on his vehicle ended up being too big which causes them to rub against his fenders.
“The ride quality is absolutely horrible, most of the shocks are blown, and the bed barely stays on,” Ryan said.
Ryan grabbed the truck bed and demonstrated how loose it was. It looked like it would simply come off in his hands.
Although the heat and AC work amazingly, the thermostat housing leaks a lot of coolant, which means he has to constantly check the level (and keeps a jug in his truck at all times).
While this beater has a lot of problems, Ryan likes showing people that he can still burn rubber.
