It’s a hunters favorite time of year, deer season. In this story you will find out how to hunt legally and safely. The first step to hunting is you’re going to need a license. When purchasing your license you will need to know the zone you’re in and what firearm you will be using. To purchase a license you will need a hunters safety card, which can be achieved by taking the online course. The biggest thing while deer hunting during firearm season is to wear orange, to legally hunt your body will have to be covered in at least fifty percent blaze orange clothing. An example of this could be an orange jacket or an orange set of bibs. I always like to say “if you have the orange, wear it”. The deer can not see orange so you might as well wear it!
Another big safety piece in deer hunting is being able to put up and take down a deer stand efficiently and safely. You can use either climbing sticks or a ladder to climb up the tree into your deer stand. Another option to climbing the tree is screw in foot pegs. While putting up or taking down a deer stand you should be anchored to the tree at all times just in case a strap breaks. After you have your climbing set up the next step is to hang your stand. You will wrap the strap around the tree and clip it on the backside of the stand. Then you will have to tighten up the strap and while anchored to the tree, step on it so it tightens all the way to the tree. When stepping on it the stand will dig into the tree and that will tighten up the strap.
The next step is to safely get the stand out of the tree. You should also be harnessed or attached to the tree while doing this, again incase of a strap breaking. The first step to taking a stand down is to fold up the stand so it lets go of the tree and then loosen the strap that is around the tree. Then the next step is to climb down your climbing set and take off the attachments as you go down the tree. Staying warm is also a key attribute to hunting, wouldn’t want your finger being too cold to pull the trigger!
