For Saint Francis High School senior Avery Myers, high school hasn’t always been as easy as she makes it look. From juggling things from friend groups to sports and work, grades weren’t always a priority.
For the year-round volleyball player the thought of school and her grades was never really something that crossed her mind too often.
“I had no idea what I wanted to do and it made it even harder for me to focus in school,” she said.
Now as a senior, Avery knows what she wants her future to look like and shes racing against the clock to make it a reality.
“I’ve prioritized school and quit volleyball last year to focus on school work,” she said.
Though she has given up something she loved, by focusing on school she will be able to do things she’s always dreamed of.
“Moving to Washington and going into forensics is really important to me,” she said. “I’ve also always wanted to travel the world.”
Along the path of her high school journey Avery has learned a few life lessons that will stick with her for years to come.
“Sometimes the harder choices we make in the present,” she said, “is what will lead us to our best selves in the future.”
