Hockey Coach Honored by MN Wild
Boys hockey manager, Brittany Coop nominated head coach Tyler Schaff for the 3M Excellence in Coaching award.
“I nominated Schaff because he is a role model for me and to our team,” said Coop, “He is willing to help any player after practice on his own time.”
Coop had to write an essay about Schaff and send it into the Minnesota Wild.
A candidate for this award must display good sportsmanship, positive sports experience and teaching methods through the game of hockey, respect for players, parents, fans, and officials, teach positive life skills, and dedicate time both on and off the ice to support community initiatives.
“What makes Schaff a good coach is how much he loves the game,” said captain Lucas Carroll, “He’s dedicated to it and he treats us incredibly well.”
Schaff received a phone call and email from a Minnesota Wild representative saying that he was nominated and selected.
“It feels good,” said Schaff, “It’s a testament to my assistant coaches and all the time they put in, also our players and the direction our program is going and the help from our managers too.”
Schaff was awarded two tickets to a Minnesota Wild game and was mentioned at the game.
“Many younger kids look up to both him and the high school team,” said Coop, “He is an all around funny coach and always tries to make things fun.”
