Students and staff prepare for a new school year
As students and teachers alike trickle into the high school they will be attending for the next nine months, the chaotic sounds of cascading footfalls and chit-chat fills the air.
In anticipation for the new school year, underclassmen, upperclassmen, and teachers were all met with the task of preparing themselves for their first day back at the high school as their summer break came to a close. To prepare themselves, many had to stock up on school supplies and make changes to their habits and behaviors.
“I actually did everything the night before because I was sailing all day,” said one freshman girl.
On September 7th, 2022, the first day of the new school year, 9th graders not only had to adjust to a new schedule and new teachers, but a brand new school building as well.
“The building is really nice and a lot cleaner than I thought it would be,” she said.
Upperclassmen had other concerns.
“I got new clothes”, said upperclassman Liz Hendricks. “I had to change my sleep schedule because I was up until 1:00 am, but now I go to sleep at 10:00 pm, so I’m prepared for my day.”
Hendricks feels her classes are pretty good. She does online learning for part of the day and then goes to school in person for Spanish and Creative Writing.
Teachers also have to prepare for their classes in order to be ready for students. English Teacher Mike Bremer noted that making changes to his plans for teaching classes he’s already taught before is the general standard to prepare when school starts up again each year.
“For the school year, I prepared by revising some of my lesson plans,” said Bremer, “ looking back at what I’ve taught in the past, and how I want to update them or incorporate new material into them.”
