Teachers and Homecoming
High School Dress Up Themes
More stories from Madi Berwald
For a single week in the fall, it may look like SFHS has gone crazy and during Homecoming, even the teachers get into it with fun outfits.
During spirit week, Student Council sponsors various activities to get everyone pumped up for the big game Friday. One of these activities is having a dress up theme each day. Themes allow students to have fun with their outfits and to start raising the energy.
“I think Spirit Week adds excitement for the week. It gives a chance for every student to get involved when it comes to school spirit,” said Andrew Forbort, a business teacher, “Friday night’s football game is certainly the big event for the week but the spirit week brings excitement to every day, all day.”
Looking around the school during spirit week it’s clear to see that the majority of students and staff participate in the themes and have fun doing so.
“I just love being able to (go all out in attire for spirit week),” said math teacher Teresa Orpen, “It gives me that creative opportunity to go ahead and give it my all and see what I got.”
With crazy themes, comes crazy outfits, and there’s been some remarkable ones students have come up with. Orpen reflects on a few that stood out most over the years.
“Aside from being head to toe in duct-tape, I do remember seeing like a duct tape suit. A couple years ago, this particular individual wore a leotard. It was a long-sleeved leotard. But she eventually at some point did put on leggings.”
Students aren’t the only ones with large imaginations when it comes to dressing for spirit week. English teacher Brittney Moffatt, who was a student at SFHS, still loves dressing up each day.
“Last year they had highlighter day and I have bright fluorescent orange tights for running and fluorescent shoes and shirt. I was pretty bright,” said Moffatt. “Otherwise I got to wear my Camo bibs for hunting day, so that was fun.”
Walking down the halls reminds Forbort how many of the students have so much school pride. With all the excitement going on during the school day, it’s sure to follow through to Friday’s game.
“Be as crazy and wacky as you want and nobody will judge you,” said Orpen. “It’s spirit week so go for it.”
