Winter Sports Season Recap
As all SFHS winter sports are coming to an end, athletes are proud of the seasons they had, but many are already looking forward to next year.
Boys basketball, having a young team with few seniors, has been working hard to improve throughout the season.
“It has been a pretty tough season for us but we have gradually gotten a lot better.” Said senior Glenn G. “We’ve improved in practice each day and as a result games have started to get a lot more competitive for us.”
Currently holding a record of 5-22, the team is continuing to work hard as sections week is quickly approaching..
“We are really looking forward to improving next year.” Shared sophomore Wyatt Schroeder. “We had a pretty young team this year, but will have a lot of seniors next year and hopefully be a lot better than other teams.”
Speaking of Basketball, the girls team has had a really good season, with a current record of 17-10.
“We’ve definitely had some bumps in the road this season” shared junior Grace Eastman, “but we’re continuing to push through together. Our hard work this season has given us a very good shot at state this year.”
The varsity team won their first section game against Blaine 85-47 on Tuesday, February 28th, and are hoping to continue being successful through the rest of sections.
Junior Karley Odella, captain of the SFHS Dance team, shares about the exciting season the dance team had. “This year we did really good! We made history by becoming kick conference champions and jazz conference champions, which we have never done before.”
SFDT is losing a few seniors which have contributed a lot to the team throughout the years. Although this will create changes to the team, there are many younger girls that will have to step up in order to have another successful season. “We are really hoping to continue to have seasons as great as this one.” Says Freshman Brooke Kulsrud.
SFHS wrestling is another sport that will have to adjust to the loss of seniors that next season will bring. Senior Tanner Kunshier shares about the teams season, “As a team our season went pretty good, we also had some pretty good individual wrestlers.”
The wrestling team will be sending a few individual wrestlers to the state tournament which will take place in March.
“Overall we made some really good memories this season” said senior Luke Lipinski, “I’m very sad that it has come to an end, but we really had a great season.”
Both the girls and boys hockey teams ended the year with two great seasons! “The boys hockey team ended with a winning record” shares Junior Cody Kolb, “it has been awhile since the hockey team has done that, which was really cool”
